My Favorite Shows and Movies!

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone and their characters are doing awesome.

In today’s post, I thought I’d share my favorite shows and a couple of my favorite movies. It can be hard to find clean shows/movies that are still fun to watch, because sadly, a lot of entertainment has negative undertones, bad language, etc. So if you’re struggling to find something you can enjoy with the family, or if you’re kind of running out of good stuff to watch, you’ve come to the right place! XD

I thought this would be a fun post, so hope you enjoy it! I’m starting with shows, then I’m going to share a couple of my favorite movies.

1. Full House

Watch Full House: The Complete First Season | Prime Video

Full House is a relatively old sitcom (it first aired in 1987), but it’s still so entertaining! There are some shows that have timeless humor, and Full House is one of them. It’s completely clean, unlike some sitcoms, so it makes for a great family watch! I’ve binged this so many times, and finished all eight seasons a long time ago. I still love rewatching my favorite episodes!

Full House is about a widowed father, Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) living with his rock-n-roll brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) and his best friend/standup-comedian Joey (Dave Coulier). The three men join forces to raise Danny’s three daughters – DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle. During the eight seasons, we watch the girls grow up (the eldest is a high school senior at the end of the show). The themes are great, as the girls learn a lot about friendship, family, dating, and other issues. The show handles these issues in an admirable, and always humorous, way! So it teaches important “life lessons” along with providing entertainment. Again, it is totally family friendly!

If you’ve watched Full House, do you have a favorite character and/or episode? I couldn’t decide on one episode – there are too many great ones. But my favorite character is HANDS DOWN the pesky next-door neighbor and eldest Tanner daughter’s best friend – Kimmy Gibbler. She’s just so iconic and hilarious – and besides that, she’s completely unique and unafraid to show it. Kimmy is my inspiration because she’s always reminded me of myself! 😂 My goal in life is to be as confident as she is.

Full House is currently streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. You can also purchase it on YouTube.

2. Fuller House

Watch Fuller House: The Complete Fourth Season | Prime Video

Fuller House is, as you probably already guessed, the sequel to Full House. Fuller House takes place thirty years later. In it we see Tanner daughters DJ and Stephanie, along with best friend Kimmy, all grown up. I think it’s so much fun to see them as adults with kids of their own!

Fuller House focuses on DJ (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) joining forces to raise their kids together after DJ is widowed. They all live in the old Tanner house and still have the funniest and craziest adventures. Danny, Jesse, Joey, and other characters from Full House make guest appearances.

Again, Kimmy is still HANDS DOWN my favorite character. I didn’t know this was possible, but she’s even MORE iconic as an adult in Fuller House. She’s stayed her unique self and is as awesome as ever – and still has the biggest mouth as well as the biggest heart.

As for a favorite episode, again it would be too hard to choose, but I obviously love all the ones where Kimmy leads. So if I HAD to pick a favorite, it would have to be “Five Dates with Kimmy Gibbler” since her name is literally in the title. It’s a hilarious episode where Kimmy decides to, in her words, “do a little window-shopping” in order to determine if her Argentinian racecar-driving fiancé is really “the one.”

Anyway, Fuller House is streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You can also purchase it on YouTube.

3. Alexa & Katie

Alexa & Katie Main Title Theme (A Netflix Original Series) by Paris Berelc on Amazon Music - Amazon.com

I discovered this sitcom recently and have watched most of its four seasons. I’ve really been enjoying it. I think the show has a great message, and besides that, it’s hilarious and very clean!

Alexa & Katie is about two lifelong best friends who, at the beginning of the show, are entering high school, and at the end they are graduating. Alexa (Paris Berelc) is sick with cancer, but Katie (Isabel May) isn’t letting her go through any of it alone – even the stage of losing her hair.

I think the show portrays cancer and illness in a very real and compassionately humorous way. That’s what I like most about it. That, and the strong bond of lifelong friendships. Alexa and Katie are not only best friends – their families are best friends, and their parents went to high school together. True friendships are the ones that stand the test of time, and I love how this show portrays that.

Have any of you guys seen this show? If you haven’t, I definitely recommend it! My favorite character would have to be Lori, Alexa’s mom. I think she’s a hilarious and chill mom, and she has a great heart for family and friendship.

So yeah, I would recommend giving this show a watch! You can stream it on Netflix.

4. When Calls the Heart

Watch When Calls the Heart - Season 5 | Prime Video

Anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with Hallmark shows and movies! There is so much good stuff from Hallmark, but When Calls the Heart has to be my top favorite. And that’s saying a lot, since it’s pretty tough to choose!

When Calls the Heart is about schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher and Mountie Constable Jack Thornton, who live among beloved friends in a small frontier town. At first, Elizabeth and Jack don’t get along very well, but anyone who watches Hallmark shows knows that there are wedding bells in store!

Unfortunately, things aren’t always easy in Hope Valley. There’s danger. There’s loss. There are plenty of enemies. But good always wins!

My favorite thing about this show is that all the characters are very REAL. They’re all their own unique people with their own complex stories. Even the most antagonistic characters have legitimate reasons for what they do and somehow get you to commiserate with them. There are also plenty of good characters who have many faults and complicated lives. (If anyone watches the show, Bill Avery is the character I’m thinking especially of here!) Anyway, my author-self gets very happy when characters in shows all have their own goals and motivations.

My favorite characters from When Calls the Heart are Rosemary and Lee. They always make me laugh and they’re just the best!

The show is based on the novel by Christian fiction writer Janette Oke. I’ve never read it, but Janette Oke is an excellent author, so I’m sure it’s great! Especially since the show is based on it.

When Calls the Heart is currently streaming on Netflix – however, only five of the seven seasons are available. If you want access to all seasons, you can watch through Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, FuboTV, YouTube, and iTunes.

5. Good Witch

Good Witch - A Hallmark Channel Original Series

I had to include another Hallmark show, of course. Good Witch is another I really enjoy. I started watching only recently, so I’m only in the middle of season three, but it’s really good so far!

Good Witch is about Cassie, a widow with magical powers (Catherine Bell) who catches the eye of town doctor Sam (James Denton). Both Cassie and Sam are single parents – Cassie with a daughter, Sam with a son. They live in the small, tight-knit town of Middleton, where Cassie takes in boarders at her huge mansion, Grey House. Middleton’s citizens are very different from one another, but they are all good friends.

My favorite character from this show would have to be Cassie, although I also really like Middleton’s mayor, Martha Tinsdale. If any of you guys have seen this show, I would love to know your favorite!

Netflix currently streams only five of six seasons. So if you want to watch all seasons, you can go to Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, and Vudu.

Now for my absolute favorite movies!

6. Paul, Apostle of Christ

Amazon.com: Paul, Apostle of Christ: Jim Caviezel, Olivier Martinez, Joanne Whalley, John Lynch, James Faulkner, Andrew Hyatt, David Zelon, T.J. Berden, Giving Films; Mandalay Pictures; ODB Films: Movies & TV

This movie is so so so good!! To be honest, I’m usually pretty wary of Biblical movies. I feel like too many of them take huge liberties and make the Bible into something it never was and just a crazy Hollywood creation. So when I saw this movie and decided to rent it, I wasn’t expecting much. I decided if it turned out to be unbiblical, I would stop watching. But it turned out I was completely and joyfully surprised!

The movie was AMAZING. JUST AMAZING. I loved it. I was literally drowning in my tears as I watched. It was so powerful and moving.

Paul, Apostle of Christ is about St. Paul’s final days in a gloomy Roman dungeon as he awaits execution by beheading at the hands of the emperor Nero. Paul wrote the book of 2 Timothy – the last letter he ever penned – from this prison. Accused of starting the fire that burnt Rome (it was Nero himself who really started the fire), Paul is hated by the entire empire. Only a very small few of his friends stand by him – including, of course, St. Luke.

St. Paul is played by James Faulkner and St. Luke by Jim Caviezel. After watching this movie, I learned about Caviezel’s work, and I greatly admire his faith. He also played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, which I have not seen but REALLY want to!

Anyway, Paul, Apostle of Christ was awesome! Its portrayal of Paul was completely biblically accurate. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the way it portrayed Paul’s guilt over his past – it was honestly HEARTBREAKING. Every moment I was watching, my heart was pounding.

Warning: This movie is rated PG-13. So if you’re under thirteen, get a parent’s permission to watch 🙂 And if you have young kids, you might want to give the movie a watch before playing it for them. I don’t think it was too gory, but there were some graphic scenes. Such as in the beginning of the movie when one of the Roman soldiers is ordered to whip Paul, and later we see the wounds as Luke tends them. There’s also one scene where a Christian is tied to a stake and burned to death. So yes, there are those moments and a few others that might not be appropriate for a more sensitive audience. Again, I recommend giving it a watch before you play it for young people.

With that said, the movie is SO good! In fact, it even played a role in inspiring The Apostle’s Sister. After I watched it, I was more sure than ever that I HAD to write a novel about St. Paul. So I definitely recommend it!

You can rent or purchase Paul, Apostle of Christ on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, and YouTube.

7. Son of God

Amazon.com: Son of God: Darwin Shaw, Sebastian Knapp, Paul Knops, Darcie Lincoln, Christopher Spencer, Richard Bedser, Colin Swash, Nic Young: Movies & TV

Son of God is another awesome Biblical movie! I actually watched this one for the first time only a week ago, and it was literally SO SO SO SO good. It made me cry and smile at the same time. This movie is one of the most moving and powerful I have ever watched. As I said before, I’m usually wary of Biblical movies, but this one’s portrayal of Jesus was completely biblically accurate.

I loved this movie so much. It’s a film about the ministry of Jesus Christ, his crucifixion, and then the joyous resurrection. Jesus is played by Diogo Morgado. Roma Downey, who plays Mother Mary, produced the movie alongside her husband, Mark Burnett. Downey and Burnett are devout Christians, so the movie is biblically accurate and realistic in its portrayal of Jesus Christ.

Son of God was VERY emotional, and definitely a tearjerker. I sobbed at the crucifixion scene, but that made the resurrection scene all the more powerful! I highly recommend. Watch this movie, and you won’t regret it!

As I said for Paul, Apostle of Christ, I do have to add the warning that this movie is rated PG-13. Again, I don’t think it was extremely gory, but there are graphic scenes, especially the ones of Jesus’ scourging and crucifixion. So again, if you’re under thirteen, please get a parent’s permission, and if you’re thinking about playing the movie for young people, give it a watch before doing so.

With that said, I highly highly HIGHLY recommend! This movie makes Jesus’ suffering and terrible death extremely vivid, so I walked away with a greater appreciation for his sacrifice. If you see Son of God, I’m sure it will do the same for you.

You can rent or purchase Son of God on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, YouTube, and iTunes.

That’s it for today!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you plan on checking out any of these shows or movies, or if you’ve already seen any of them.

Make sure to say hi in the comments! Can’t wait to hear from y’all!

Ooh, these are great! I love Full and Fuller House!! I’ve heard of Paul, the Apostle of Christ, but I’ve never watched it. I’ll have to check out Alexa & Katie sometime, too!

I LOVE FULL HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s been like one of my favorite series EVER!!!! And I LOVE WHEN CALLS THE HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Though, I’ve only seen most of season 1 and a bit of the last season. Yea, I jump around a bit too much. The Passion of the Christ is a REALLY good movie that portrays Jesus’ crucifixion pretty close to how it really was. But it’s also like R rated, so be prepared there’s some pretty brutal, gory could be the word I’m looking for, scenes if you do end up watching it. But I always just sit back thinking Jesus went through this FOR ME!!!! GREAT POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, that I haven’t finished up The Apostles Sister yet, I’ve been REALLY wanting to get to it, but I basically just wrote a 6,000 word short story in like three days, so it’s been a little rough. But I’ve NOT forgotten about your AMAZING story!!!

Oh, when I watch shows, I go through and watch all the episodes that look most interesting first! Even though it’s so much better when you watch in order.
Yes, I’ve heard The Passion of the Christ is very intense that way. I mean, the entire movie is just on the crucifixion (I think) so they would do it in a lot of detail. But I totally agree that yes, it would make us reflect on the true meaning of Jesus’ sacrifice. I think a lot of people, with our modern lens, don’t realize how painful and excruciating dying on a cross was. It was waaaaay worse than any other death.
Absolutely no worries! In just three days!? I’m impressed!

AGREED!!!!
Amen sister!!!!!! You preach it!!!!!!!!!!!!! <33
You may be impressed, but I'm exhausted. XD I think my whole mental creativity just zapped down to zero. Well, mostly zero, I reserved a little bit for something super exciting, that I don't know if I should keep quiet about or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I don’t know how awesome you’ll find it, but yesterday I did it!!!!!! I CAME UP WITH A DECENT PLOT IDEA FOR THE INTO THE LAMP’S SEQUEL…that I might not ever write.

That’s be SUPER COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve started writing sequels before but have never actually completed one. It’d be pretty interesting to see if I could ever complete one.

I completely agree! There’s something about sequels that are so tough to write. Would you be willing to tell me if genie is in the sequel? *curiosity heightening

Um…I REALLY wanna tell you like SUPER BADLY but um…MAJOR spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I ALMOST told you, though, but then that’d spoil and ruin the whole thing. :,( WHY do I have to have such complicated plots??!!!

I totally get it! Sometimes I get tempted to share the entire plot of my novel, but there’s something so delicious about being the only person who knows it 😅 Also do you mind if I email you about a super top-secret plot problem I’ve been struggling with? I have a secret question to ask you and think your input would be so helpful! (If you’ve got the time, of course. We writers are BUSY!)

Thank you for posting this! I’m always looking for clean things to watch. I love Full House and When Calls the Heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I often have a hard time choosing a favorite character but I think my favorite in When Calls the Heart would be Elizabeth and Jack! You totally need to see The Passion of the Christ – it is so moving!!!!!!!!❤️ My family and I watch The Passion just about every year at Easter. Those movies sound really cool!!!!!!!!!
Have you seen the movie I Still Believe? If not, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That movie is sooooo good! If you watch it, you will probably cry. It is just so sweet and touching!

Aw, no problem! I like Elizabeth and Jack, too. You’re right – I do need to see The Passion! I love Biblical movies when the screenwriters don’t take crazy liberties. That sounds like a great tradition!
I actually have not seen I Still Believe, although I’ve heard of it. Since you’ve recommended it, I’ll be checking that one out as well! I love movies that make me cry.
